Harmony Willow Studio

Harmony Hansen is a Brooklyn-based illustrator. She graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and has worked with the arts and in education, always with the aim to educate and empower others. She is also a full-time nanny, often spending her days exploring NYC with the kids she cares for. She finds most of her inspiration through people in her neighborhood, her friends & family, or current events. Her artwork encourages self-love, self-care, inclusivity, and diversity.

How did you start making art that empowers people?

I started making artwork with the intent of showing bodies that looked like mine and spreading messages of kindness and love. I felt then and still do (although it is getting better) that there aren't enough images of EVERY body type. Self-care is so important to me.

What do you do to self-care?

I think it’s beautiful to compliment yourself. I often catch myself in the mirror and instead of saying “Oh God”, I’ll say “Damn girl, you’re beautiful”. Moving my body is a large part of self-care, whether it’s through yoga, a walk, or dancing I try hard to squeeze a little bit of movement into each day. Lastly, I always finish my day with a hot bath or shower and some skincare.
