MEET OUR ARTISTS
My name is Lucy. I'm a Special Education teacher and illustrator from the Midwest. I’ve always loved art and been excited to try new things. My style is fluid and changes depending on what medium I’m really into at the time. I’m self taught and always hope that people find the mistakes, as well as the beauty in the mistakes.
How did you start making art that empowers people?
I started making art first as a coping mechanism, anxiety can take over and I found that drawing, painting, creating in general, helped me slow time down. Through therapy I found that my experience of severe anxiety and depression didn’t make me lonely, many people felt the same. I want to make art that lets people feel safe, seen and free.
What do you do to self-care?
For my self-care I find it really important to ask myself, ‘What do I need?’ I feel like that makes me stop and take a moment to think through do I need to go for a run because I have unused energy, do I need to journal and get some thoughts out, or do I need to lay down for a bit. Life happens so fast and there are so many forms of self care it can become overwhelming. Yet, self care is about building a safe relationship with yourself, checking in is really important.
