Meet Ruby ✨
Hi, my name's Ruby! I am the creator behind the Instagram account @worrywellbeing. I started it in September 2019 whilst going through a difficult time with my mental health. I draw colourful, honest and uplifting illustrations in the hope to help others who are struggling. I started my Etsy shop recently which has been very exciting! I also work with the charity Beder to create posts raising awareness around suicide prevention and mental health and I’m a full time student studying Fine Art, Sociology and English Literature.
How did you start making art that empowers people?
I’ve always loved creating things, but it was after I had struggled with mental health problems for a few years that I started making art about my own experiences. During a bad time in my life, illustration gave me an outlet to express what I was going through and it became something positive to focus on. I knew that sharing and reading about other people’s experiences can be extremely helpful and so I started my Instagram page in the hope to support others going through similar struggles.
What do you do to self-care?
When you struggle with mental health problems, self care can be especially difficult to put into practice; it is most important to practice self care when you are in a dark space but when you are in a dark space it is so difficult to practice self care. I create small aims for myself everyday as a way of managing my stress levels and preventing myself from getting overwhelmed, as well as setting aside dedicated times to do small things that make me feel good, for example doing painting my nails, watching a film, chatting to friends.
