You Are Not Alone (And We Mean That)
Posted by AJ Martofel
There are moments when the weight of everything feels like too much to carry by yourself. When you're sitting with a hard feeling — grief, anxiety, exhaustion, heartbreak — and the silence around you feels louder than it should. When you look around and wonder if anyone truly gets what you're going through.
If that's ever been you, this one is for you.
You are not alone.
Those four words are at the heart of this year's orange box — and at the heart of everything we've been building at Self-Care Is For Everyone since day one.
The Meaning Behind the Orange Box
When we sat down with Kleenex to shape this year's collection, we knew we wanted each box to speak to a different emotional experience — not just as a feel-good phrase, but as a real response to something real people feel. The orange box is our response to isolation.
Loneliness is one of the most universal human experiences, and one of the least talked about. You can be in a full room and feel completely invisible. You can have people who love you and still feel like no one really sees you. That specific kind of loneliness — the kind that exists even when you're not technically alone — is something we've felt, and something we know so many of you carry too.
This year's campaign theme is Connection Makes Us Stronger, and the orange box is where that theme starts — with the simple, powerful act of reminding someone that they are seen, they are not forgotten, and they are part of something bigger than this moment.
The artwork was brought to life by Luisa Maria Arrango, an incredibly talented Colombian-American illustrator and mom who we've had the pleasure of working with for the past few years of these Kleenex campaigns & beyond. Her work gives this message the warmth and visual energy it deserves.
Why "You Are Not Alone" Matters Right Now
We're living through what researchers are calling a loneliness epidemic. Despite being more digitally connected than ever, people are reporting feeling more emotionally disconnected than at any point in recent history. The pandemic accelerated it. Hustle culture reinforced it. And the pressure to appear fine — on social media, at work, in relationships — has made it harder than ever for people to just say: "I'm struggling and I could use some connection."
What makes it worse is the shame that often tags along with loneliness. Like feeling alone somehow means you're unlovable or broken. So people stay quiet. They scroll. They push through. And the cycle continues.
We built SCIFE because we refused to let that silence win. And we keep building it — through every product, every post, every partnership — because we believe that when one person feels less alone, it creates a ripple. That's not just a nice idea. That's the whole mission.
Bringing This Reminder Into Your Life
- Say it out loud. Tell someone in your life "I've been feeling kind of disconnected lately." You don't have to have the whole conversation — just crack the door open.
- Let yourself be found. Sometimes we wait for others to reach out when we're struggling. Try being the one who reaches first, even when it's hard.
- Create small moments of connection. A text. A coffee. A comment on someone's post that actually says something real. Connection doesn't have to be grand to be meaningful.
- Sit with the feeling instead of running from it. Loneliness, when you stop fighting it, can actually point you toward what you need. What kind of connection are you really craving?
- Remember that community exists even when it's quiet. You being here — reading this, seeking something that resonates — means you're already part of one.
Journal Prompts to Sit With
- When have I felt the most genuinely seen in my life? What was present in that moment?
- What would I want someone to say to me right now if they really knew what I was going through?
- Is there someone in my world who might be feeling alone? What's one small way I could reach out this week?
- What does "not alone" actually look like for me — what kind of connection am I craving most right now?
