MEET OUR ARTISTS
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Northumberland and Newcastle. I create bold line work, simple figures and continuous line drawings. Inspiration comes from my personal experience of mental ill health, politics, feminism and the role of women in art in society.
How did you start making art that empowers people?
I have always been surrounded with people who are living with mental ill health and that has had a huge impact on my art work. It took me to feel at my lowest to produce the work that I am creating today. I think art is such an important way to communicate how we feel and a way to express ourselves. I create continuous line drawings of figures and faces which I find in itself a very therapeutic when I work I can lose myself and not think about anything which is something really enjoy.
What do you do to self-care?
There are so many things I consider self-care I wouldn’t know where to begin. I really find tidying my room while listening to a good podcast very uplifting. My room is always messy so when I am able to take my time and do this It really helps clear my mind. I also love sitting with friends chatting wearing facemasks and watching something wholesome and motivational. I think looking after your mind and soul is such an important part of looking after yourself as it is so easily looked over.
